Fabulous weddings on a budget

I’m always doing research online in order to grow our business, find inspiration, & educating myself so that I can constantly grow as a photographer. Well, I came across this absolutely amazing website, once wed. It’s only been around for a year & was originally created so that brides had a means of reselling their once used wedding gowns & for others to purchase these lightly used dresses @ a reduced price. It has grown to now also has real weddings featured on the blog, inspirational galleries for photo ideas, & a DIY projects page which I just think is so great, especially when the economy isn’t at it’s greatest & couples are always trying to figure out ways to pinch pennies ( & please don’t take it out of the photography budget ). So check it out if you’re in the market to get hitched or just keep it in mind for the future…hey, you never know.

James & Jessamyn

I was able to get the rest of the images up much quicker than anticipated (makes me a happy girl). This wonderful new venue is the Calendar House located in Livingston, NY. If you are looking for a destination wedding in the Hudson Valley this is definitely worth a look. The house is nestled in a beautiful rural, country setting.

Enough about the house (just love this location), we now move onto the dress. The bride chose a simple, elegant gown from JCrew. I just thought it was perfect for the venue.

Her sister, who could be her twin, helped her put on this gorgeous necklace that added just the right touch of elegance to the gown.

Isn’t she lovely! The bouquet just gives this photo a “pop” that I just love! The flowers were done by a local venue in Hudson, the Rosary.

This shot gives you a great idea of one of the options you could have here for the ceremony. Think using the staircase was a great way for all in attendance to have a nice view.

The new father in-law was quite proud to have gained a daughter (love her reaction).

The gorgeous wedding party. Absolutely loved the navy blue dresses.

These two are so adorable. James had the biggest smile all night long.

I had to sneak this one in again to just highlight the amazing row of trees that lined the driveway. This made for an ideal spot for photos.

All the college buddies got together for this one (just love the branches in this one)

During the toasts, I caught this moment. You can really feel the happiness they felt for each other on this day.

Nice night shot Jesse got that really shows off the amazing tree in the back of the house.

One of the guests had a Polaroid, so Jesse took advantage of it & got this right before we left.

Wanted to thank James & Jessamyn again for allowing us to share in their special day & help capture all those memories that they will cherish for years to come. We really enjoyed being able to experience this amazing day @ such a beautiful location.

Wedding @ the Calendar House

So, we just shot our last wedding @ a brand new wedding venue in upstate NY. For a first event, I think it went, well pretty amazing. Everything just seemed to fall into place. So here is just a sneak peak while I round up some of the vendor names who helped make this day happen.

Cathrin & James

So I wanted to finish my post about our 3 day weekend we shot in the Catskills. The whole weekend was held @ one location, which made it really nice for all the family & friends that decided to stay up. The event took place @ the Full Moon Resort, in Big Indian. On Friday guests arrived & greeted one another, getting better acquainted before the big day. The day ended with dinner in the nearby barn followed by dancing & a bonfire. On Saturday, the day started with yoga followed by a large buffet breakfast. I went with the girls to get the hair done @ a salon about 30 minutes away. It was a nice quiet get away for the bride & a few others to have some down time. Back @ the resort, the guys played soccer or “football” as they call it in Europe. It never ceases to amaze me how differently guys & girls are when it comes to so many things, like what they are doing right before their wedding. Once we got back to start getting the girls ready, I just fell in love with the brides dress. So simple, yet perfectly elegant. The designer was Jim Hjelm.

Cathrin taking a few minutes to check over the dress & fix her hair. She really looked radiant.

While I was with the girls, Jesse got some great shots of the guys hanging out.

The bouquets were absolutely gorgeous & were done by the Flower Shop in the Catskills.

This was an important shot for James, & hope we got it to his liking. He wanted a perspective shot of his face while Cathrin was coming down the aisle.

The ceremony site was just so picturesque. You can’t tell, but below the tree line was a creek, that you could hear ever so softly. It really added to the ambiance & it was so tranquil.

I have to say, after the ceremony the temperatures dropped quite quickly so I have to make sure I give them credit for being such good sports & holding out as long as they did.

You can really see some of the trees changing in a few of the pictures. I was surprised to see color in the middle of September.

The cake was by Sweet Nothings.

There were so many other photos I would have loved to have posted, but with a 3 day venue it was too hard. Thanks again to everyone who helped make this wedding day such a success & a special thanks to Cathrin & James for trusting in us to help capture your wedding weekend.

Wedding in the Catskills

Well another fantastic wedding. This was a little different experience for Jesse & I because we spent 3 days with this bunch. The grooms family is from England & the brides family is from Germany. So not only the uniting of two people, but two cultures. So it was a very special event that they wanted documented as a whole weekend. Wish we could do this for every wedding because it truly made us feel like we weren’t just working, but that we were among friends. There are so many favorites so here is just a teaser until I finish editing the rest. Will post more later…

Dave & Becky

So, here is the continuation from my last post. There were just so many great shots that I wanted to share from our latest wedding shot @ Apple Barn Farm, in upstate NY. The day started off with Becky getting her makeup done by Tony of Eprac Meid Makeup. Before I arrived to start shooting, she had gotten her hair done by a local vendor from Hudson, Bodhi Studio. Becky was already glowing from excitement.

This had to be one of my favorite dresses yet. A Vera Wang creation that was absolutely gorgeous & just loved the whole ruffle going down the one side. Becky even had a pocket made out of part of it so she could keep a tissue & her vows tucked away.

Getting a peak of the ceremony. Thought Jesse captured this moment perfectly of Becky right before her parents were to walk her down the aisle.

These two were so adorable. Lots of laughter which is always a great start to marriage.

Here’s a good shot of the pocket I had mentioned earlier. I thought it was genius.

I think Becky’s expression just says it all after they were announced husband & wife.

A little champagne to celebrate the festivities.

The sky may have been overcast, but it created the most perfect light. These two were just so stinking cute. Beautiful couple.

A Jewish tradition calls on guests to entertain the bride and groom by dancing at their wedding. The circle dance, or hora, is a traditional and favorite selection, one that Becky & Dave had chosen.

This was such a fantastic wedding. Lots of fun, laughter, & good times had by all. Thank you to Becky & Dave for allowing us to be apart of your special day. Congratulations!

Ryan & Hiroko

This past Saturday Jesse & I had the privilege of shooting an amazing engagement session right around the corner from our home. Ryan wanted to surprise his girlfriend to a get away in upstate NY where he was planning on proposing. He then wanted to continue the surprise with a hot air balloon ride which was provided by Russ Barber @ the Columbia Airport. The flight was quite early, so there was a layer of beautiful fog still in the air & were able to catch the sunrise before they departed on their flight as well.

After their flight landed & they were able to get a bite to eat, I met them @ Art Omi for a gorgeous e-session of the newly engaged couple. Ryan had wanted to utilize their love of nature & really thought our suggestion was exactly what they were hoping for.

The beautiful blue sapphire engagement ring.

The sky was just an amazing shade of blue.

Thank you to Ryan & Hiroko for allowing us to capture this special moment. You were both amazing to work with & the love you share for each other was hard to deny. Congratulations!
