M is for Miles { Hudson Valley Newborn Photographer }

One of my favorite portrait sessions I love the most are newborn sessions. As a mom of two active young boys myself, the idea of having another baby exhausts me to even think about it. I will admit though, I definitely have my moments when I think, “maybe one more?” Then I come back to reality & realize, this is a great way for me to get my baby fix every now and then. There’s always the excitement of meeting another families newest member & getting to document some of their first moments into the world. This little guys was a little older than I usually like to photograph a newborn, but I still can’t resist the opportunity. He had other ideas about sleeping in mind, but I had so much fun w/ his little expressions & cooing sounds. But after we went outside for some family photos, sure enough, the fresh air got the best of him & he finally fell to sleep. I had such a great time @ this session & getting to meet his really awesome mom & dad too, who happen to live nearby. So hopefully, we’ll meet again & I’ll be able to capture him when he’s a little bit older.

Tyler + Megan E-session {Golden Harvest Apple Orchard}

One thing we can proudly say here in the Northeast is that Fall around here is awesome!  And what better place to showcase the season and a newly engaged couple in love than an apple orchard with a distillery on the side.  Yup!  We were at Golden Harvest Apple Orchard having a great time with Tyler & Megan exploring every nook & cranny.  As is the case with most people, Tyler and Megan were a little apprehensive and uncomfortable with the idea at first.  By the end of the shoot they were loving it, and so were we.  Enjoy!!!

We can’t wait to see you guys again this Summer for your wedding!

Thanks to Golden Harvest for all of the apple goodness!

Derek & Amy wed @ Apple Barn Farm (Part 2)

 We left off w/ Part 1 of Derek & Amy’s beautiful wedding day right before the ceremony. So now we pick up @ their gorgeous site @ Apple Barn Farm. It is always a gamble having an outdoor ceremony in NY State.  The weather always has an influence.  It was a bit humid & densely overcast, but our fearless couple went ahead w/ the outdoor ceremony.  I’m happy they did because it never ended up raining despite the threatening skies.   I always love the outdoor wedding vs. indoors because of the amazing scenery offered @ this venue, especially w/ all the lush green that is still surrounding the beautiful grounds in September.

Amy getting some assistance w/ her veil.

One of my favorite images taken by Jesse, of the girls heading over to the ceremony site.

I LOVED that they had Amy’s uncle play the bagpipes right before & after the ceremony!

Amy’s face is absolutely priceless as they are announced for the first time as husband & wife. I just love this moment in every wedding!!

Derek is a little excited…as he should be.

We couldn’t begin our portraits w/o a nice cold beer to cool off. I loved their beer cozies, which every guest went home with.  These two are so chill and laid back!  Derek’s last name is Haff, so they read “Let’s Celebrate! Haff a cold one with us”. Super cute!!  The “Haff” pun was a running theme throughout the night.

Love this shot w/ Amy & the guys.

We love sending our newly minted couple for a solitary walk up this pathway towards the apple orchards in the distance.  They always come back smiling and happy.

You’ve got mail!

Movies & music are a big part of Derek & Amy’s lives, so thought it was cool that each table was labeled a different dance instead of the usual table #’s. I loved this idea!   Believe me when I tell you that I think each and every dance listed was done later on in the night.  What a great group of people!

By far, one of the best playlists ever! It started w/ their first dance when they chose “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” by Starship. Love that song!!

Once this party started, it just got better & better! Look @ Amy go…I mean in a wedding dress & all, she didn’t let that slow her down a bit. Amy, you’re awesome!

These two have the most contagious smiles. It’s hard not to smile when they do because they light up the room.

Derek entertained everyone w/ his complete Thriller dance & I’d have to say it was pretty impressive. I love his moms reaction in the first image!

What a better way to end than w/ an incredible sunset. Just when we thought this day couldn’t be anymore amazing, the sky had other ideas. It was an absolutely stunning sunset @ that too!

Thank you so much Derek & Amy for allowing us to be apart of your wedding day. We had the most amazing time & experienced one of the funnest receptions we’ve ever been too! You guys ROCK!!

A special thanks also to all the vendors involved in making Derek & Amy’s wedding a huge success!

One of the perks about being a wedding photographer is the amazing couples you meet. Many of our couples book a year in advance, so there’s quite a bit of corresponding over that time leading up to the big day. To help ensure we are all on the same page before the actual wedding, we include a complimentary engagement shoot or “getting to know you” session. This gives us a few hours to relax, have some fun, & get comfortable in front of the camera w/ us. I will be the first to admit that I’m not one to like her photograph taken, my parents can attest to this all the way back to when I was a little tyke. Hated being in front of the camera, & though I’ve gotten better over time, I prefer to be behind the camera. But for others, this is also something that can cause a bit of insecurity. The thought of getting your photo taken all day long too, can be a bit overwhelming & quite intimidating. So ever since we started including this in our package, we’ve seen such a huge difference w/ the relationships we build w/ our couples. When the big day does arrive, they seem so much more relaxed & less stressed out about always feeling like they have to be smiling every time they see the camera. Of course we want to see every one happy on their wedding day, but not necessarily putting on a smile so that it looks forced. We are looking to capture a real & sincere smile of them truly enjoying themselves  as the day unfolds. You might all remember our engagement session w/ Derek & Amy. We met up w/ them in their home near Central Park & had such amazing chemistry w/ these two. I think I fell in love w/ them this day, & knew we’d have a great relationship ( I think they felt the same about us too ). It’s amazing how just spending a few hours w/ two people you barely know & really getting to know them & their story as a couple, you can begin to see a friendship develop & a trust that is so reassuring that we had all found the right fit. This is a huge part of why we love what we do. How amazing it is that a couple hires us to document one of the biggest moments of their lives & we are there from start to finish. What an awesome experience to not only document their wedding, but it’s truly one of the happiest days to be apart of. Just thinking about it is bringing tears to my eyes (yes, I’m a hopeless romantic & cry @ every wedding), but this only ensures me that this is the best profession for me. So, with all this said, I want to present to you one of the most fun weddings we had last year (Part 1).

It was September 24th, & surprisingly a very muggy & buggy day. That’s the funny thing about September, you never know what you are going to get. We arrived @ Rt. 66 farmhouse where everyone was getting ready. The girls on one side & the guys on the others. Love this set up because everyone is all @ one location so it makes for having a first look & then portraits that much easier. A great time saver, especially for couples who want to get the most out of their cocktail hour. So, after saying my hellos to the happy couple, I headed upstairs to begin shooting the details. Now, I to say this is one of my favorite parts. The excitement of seeing the dress for the first time always gets me giddy, like I’m living vicariously through the bride or something. I absolutely fell in love w/ Amy’s dress immediately because it reminded me of mine. I’m a sucker for tulle & lots of it. The details on it were incredible too & couldn’t wait to see it on Amy!

Something I mentioned in their last post was that she’s an elementary school teacher, so it made perfect sense that she wore a pair of  blue sparkly Tom’s on her wedding day, LOVED that about her.

You might also remember Derek is a huge spiderman fan, which only made sense that he had a pair of spidey cuff links. Have I mentioned how much I love these two!!

One of my favorite first looks to date! I just loved her expression when she saw Derek! She couldn’t stop grinning from ear to ear. Think she was quite pleased w/ her groom to be :)

Time for some portraits. I took the girls & Jesse headed off w/ the guys. As always, The Rosary did an amazing job on the bouquets.

One of my all time favorite guy group shots captured by my talented husband.

My favorite image from the day!

Hope you enjoyed Part 1 of Amy & Derek’s wedding day! Stay tuned for Part 2 soon to follow…

Rolando & Megan {Sleepy Hollow Lake House}

This was a very special wedding for Jesse & I. First, I was a bridesmaid & secondly it was baby sister’s wedding. Yup, my sweet baby sister!  I was so ecstatic to be part of the wedding but knew it would be extremely difficult for me to let go of the reigns & let Jesse have full control of the photos. I managed to wrestle the camera out of his hands for a few detail shots while we were getting ready @ my parent’s house.  No matter who is getting married, the bridal detail shots are definitely some of my favorites.  Once we were dressed & the portraits started, I had to hang up my camera & be apart of this wonderful day. As much as it was hard for me to not be photographing the whole day, it was a nice break to be able to see my adoring husband & photography partner go to work.

It was the beginning of September & we were experiencing a bit of indian summer. The heat was on & I’d have to say there was a good possibility of 100% humidity on top of it. Now I know what our brides & bridesmaids go through when the weather isn’t cooperating & you’ve spent all this time on your hair & makeup to look just right for the photos!  All this time I was worried about rain, & here we all were blotting ourselves so we didn’t look shiny in the pictures. I can’t complain though, we were able to do all our formal shots @ one of our favorite places, Blythewood @ Bard College Campus in Red Hook. We used to ride our bikes down there as kids all the time since we grew up right down the road. An absolutely beautiful mansion remains that has now been converted into offices for the College.  It sits along the Hudson River w/ a stunning garden that’s an absolutely perfect setting for wedding portraits. Rolando & Megan really did have a wonderful day  & I’m so happy I was able to be apart of it. A huge thank you to our good friend & fellow photog, Brannon of Brannon Conza Photography for second shooting w/ Jesse. We are both so appreciative for helping out so that Jesse was able to enjoy the wedding a bit himself as a guest too.  Without further adieu, I present to you Rolando & Megan!!!

One of my all time favorite photos of my sister. Isn’t she lovely!

Me with my sisters!

I love Megan’s expression in the image on the right. Does she look happy or what!!

Off to Blythewood we go…

Megan looked absolutely stunning in her Vera Wang gown.

The getaway car!  If you know Megan, you know all about her love for hotrods…Mopar to be specific.  So it was no surprise when she asked my cousin if he’d escort them after the wedding in his newly restored Charger.

The best cupcakes around, from JJ’s Rockin Cupcakes in Kingston!!

Congratulations to Rolando & Megan on such a beautiful wedding. We are so happy to have been apart of it & wouldn’t have had it any other way. We love you guys so much & can’t wait to share many more memories together!!

Hillegonda, Wedding on the Hill {Tim & Michele} part 2

 We left off w/ the new Mr. & Mrs. Carr who wed on the most popular day of this year, 9.10.11. An crazy as it sounds, it was a very warm day for almost mid September (guess it was Indian summer). Immediately following the ceremony, Tim & Michele had requested a group shot of all the guests, an announcement the officiant had forgot to mention. So it was quite the task of gathering about 130 people to flee from under the trees & to stand in the hot sun while we organized the shot. The ladder for the shot had been forgotten as well so I was struggling how to get this shot while keeping everyone in one spot. Thankfully someone mentioned using the golf cart that was on hand for escorting guests up & down the hill. So I climbed up on top & was pleasantly surprised w/ one of my favorite group shots to date! Once I got my shot, everyone was free to go & head to cocktail hour down the hill. This gave me time to get some of the family & wedding party shots. The sky was a bit hazy due to the heat facing the mountains, but was thankful we could still see them in the shots below.

One of my all time favorite wedding party shots to date as well. Absolutely was in love w/ this tree! The guys had no problem climbing it for me (& some of the ladies too). They were the best!!

What a gorgeous couple! I’m so lucky to have the best job in the world & getting to meet the most amazing couples!!

If you remember from part 1, Michele is a girl of my own heart because she’s a big Etsy fan like me. So much of their inspiration came from ideas she saw & then being so crafty, was able to recreate her own designs. Love her table numbers, burlap runners, & tree stump center pieces.

A hand written table seating chart hung from wire by clothes pins.  Local wine was used from Hudson-Chatham Winery in Ghent. Also was in love w/ the logs on the head table that was used as candle holders!

The amazing folks from Carlucci Catering provided some of the best local food from Chatham!! They had an awesome buffet for Tim & Michele.

Some adorable guest shots from Emily of Emily Photography who was second shooting w/ me. She also got the 2 shots of Michele below as well.

Loved this beautiful banner they hung @ the head table! Nice touch you guys!!

And we end w/ some photo-booth fun! If you are looking for something extra for your guests to do @ your reception, this is definitely worth considering. It’s always a crowd pleaser 100%!!

Thank you to Tim & Michele for allowing me to be apart of this special day. You guys made me feel so relaxed & appreciated & I wish you all the best as your family journey continues. Hope we see each other again soon.

Hillegonda, Wedding on the Hill {Tim & Michele} part1

What an amazing day this wedding turned out to be in so many ways! Why do I say this? Well, originally the wedding was going to be held down the street from where Tim & Michele live, but about a month before the big day, the venue backed out. So it was a mad dash to figure out a back up location, w/ all the invitations all mailed out already, so a plan B had to be put into motion. Just what every bride & groom wants to have to think about w/ such short notice, but thankfully this happened to a very calm & chill couple so it didn’t take them long to find another location. When I got the phone call it was going to be @ Hillegonda Farm, I was extra psyched. Jesse had shot a wedding here a few months back w/o me & I was uber jealous because it was such an amazing spot. So now I got to shoot my own wedding here! So the new location is all set & guests have been notified of the change of plan, all is a go. Then if that wasn’t stress enough for these two, we had gotten hit w/ Hurricane Irene only 2 weeks prior to this, & additional rain storms came in the week prior. So mud was a definite issue we’d all have to be dealing with. Thankfully the sun came out & everyone could feel a sense of calm come over them because everything was going to be alright. And that’s exactly what happened. All the planning for this big day came together perfectly. I have to say, Michele is one crafty girl. She put so much thought into so many aspects of this wedding to really make it personal & her own.

I want to give a big thank you to my friend Emily from Emily Wilson Photography for second shooting w/ me. She got these first details below, which I absolutely adored! Michele’s dress was truly unique & she wore it like a grecian goddess @ best. This dress fit her perfect & she was so beautiful.

This is Tim & Michele’s gorgeous son. What a ham he was, really working the camera for me. I could have photographed him all day!! He was the ring bearer & another crafty piece from Michele, was his pillow.

Michele & Tim’s sister, Emily made each of the six bridesmaids their own hair piece. They got inspiration from felt designs they saw on Etsy & then made their own. I wish I was this crafty, but not even close.

The dashing groom. She also made all the boutonniere’s for the guys. Michele really needs to start her own Etsy shop if she hasn’t already. Are you hearing me Michele?

Emily got the above shots of the guys & the little girl below. She was hanging out in the barn w/ mommy because her daddy was one of the groomsmen. I just want to eat her up, she’s delicious!! I mean look @ those eyes!!!

Even though this was a September wedding, it ended up being a very warm day. So guests were greeted w/ lemonade & ice tea before the ceremony. It was a hit as you can see.

Wyatt wanted mommy to hold him, so he got a lift down the aisle. I think he might have stole the show.

The ceremony site was so breathtaking, overlooking the Catskill Mountains. It was held underneath the most amazing tree, which I got the whole wedding party in later. You’ll be able to see it better in that shot. Michele made the banners hanging in the tree which was a really nice touch & added a nice pop of color. Loved it!

Stay tuned for more to follow. I’m just getting warmed up w/ this one so make sure to keep an eye out for Part 2.

Traditional Ukrainian Wedding in the heart of the Catskills {Roger + Irene}

 Where do I start with Roger & Irene…….I feel like we have known them forever!  We first met in the Fall of 2010 at one of the wildest weddings we have ever had the pleasure of photographing.  This tight knit group of friends really know how to party down!  A few days after the wedding haze wore off, the infectiously happy Roger & Irene came to our home/studio to meet us.  We hit it off immediately and the wheels were in motion!  The next time we met with each other was for their engagement session in their hometown of Beacon.  Now, every time we are there we make sure to look them up and grab a bite & a beer.  These are good people through and through!  I was so excited for this day to come.  First of all, Irene and her family are Ukrainian and the wedding was going to be a traditional Ukrainian Catholic ceremony, spoken in Ukrainian, overlooking the Catskill Mountains.   This wedding promised to be unique!  Everyone who got involved with the planning details really went all out.  From the save-the-dates to the invitations all the way down to the floral arrangements and cake, the creativity was off the charts!

Irene spent her Summers in the shadow of Hunter Mountain Resort at her family’s vacation home so it was only natural that this be the location for the next chapter in her life to start.  We begin at Kaaterskill Mountain Club located at the base of Hunter Mountain.

In case it hasn’t been said before in any of our blog posts, we absolutely love getting invitations to the weddings we are hired for!  This one felt more like a gift than an invitation when we opened it.  All of these elements were meticulously packaged together with the leaf tie surrounding the envelope.  A truly artful piece designed by one of Roger & Irene’s incredibly talented friends(Michelle, you’re awesome!).  Without really thinking about it, Roger & Irene chose the most popular date for a wedding in 2011…September 10, 2011 or 9-10-11.  An anniversary date not easily forgotten!

 Sweet kicks Irene!

 Can I just say, this structure is absolutely amazing.  The building is perfectly nuzzled into the hillside with long grand stone staircase leading from the street level to the courtyard.

 A traditional Ukrainian Catholic wedding ceremony is detailed like no other I’ve seen to date.  First of all, the most notable aspect of this wedding is there are not traditional seats in this small Cathedral.  Everyone stands throughout the entire ceremony creating a sense of intimacy with all of the guests.  The ceremony is conducted almost entirely in Ukrainian.  I was overwhelmed with the architectural detail in this building, and was pleasantly surprised by the cascading light from windows located in the upper section of the building.

 Roger kept the mood light throughout the day as he would say “cheese” before each photo!  Hey, it worked for him and got Irene to giggle every time so don’t knock it!

 Before getting to the reception we stopped at Irene’s family home with Hunter Mountain in the background.

 Then the light turned in our favor.

 DETAILS, DETAILS DETAILS!!!  The image on the right is a traditional Ukrainian Korovai made by Irene’s family.  It is decorated by doves made of baked dough representing the Bride and Groom as well as close friends and members of their families.

 As if the day wasn’t memorable enough, it was also Roger’s birthday.  He prefers pie.

 Roger & Irene, you have come into our lives and will not be forgotten.  It was an honor to be at your wedding day and we consider it an honor to be your friends!  Thank you!

A special thanks to all the vendors involved:

An Unexpected Guest, part 2 { Shawn & Jenny }

 For all of our morning readers, we are starting our day off w/ Part 2 of our Hurricane Irene wedding. As I mentioned in Part 1, almost immediately before the ceremony ended, so did the rain. So not knowing how long that would last, we scooted the wedding party outdoors for some quick photos between thunder claps and sheets of rain. We’re so happy we did because it was absolutely beautiful light for their portraits! After we were finished w/ family & the wedding party, we headed to the apple orchard for a few pics alone w/ our newlyweds. I love the grounds here because we always feel inspired no matter where we are here.

Afterwards we headed back to the party to get the reception under way. As hurricanes do, Irene ended up pretty much pouring the remainder of the night. Fortunately for us we never lost power despite the high winds, the party was never interrupted & everyone had a blast.

 Congratulations Shawn & Jenny!  If there is such a thing as good fortune from rain on a wedding day, you guys hit the mother lode!  We had a great time with you both and wish you all the best.

An Unexpected Guest, Part 1 { Shawn & Jenny }

 Well, where do I start w/ this one except for the fact this is definitely a wedding not to forget. The day was August 27th 2011…ring a bell yet? It was the day Hurricane Irene came into town. Of course, being so far inland & no where’s near a creek or river, we all figured not much would happen up our way. And, no, we didn’t get much damage @ Apple Barn Farm, but wow did the following days to come bring much devastation to neighboring towns. We were actually very fortunate to have only just gotten rain, & lots of it! I’ve gotten ahead of myself though, this is a blog about a beautiful wedding that came out of a day that will go down in history for sure. I have to say, when I showed up for this wedding, I was a bit anxious because I wasn’t sure how this day was going to unfold. But my mind was shortly distracted when I laid eyes on Jenny’s dress. This is one of my favorite parts of photographing someone’s wedding day, but this gown has left a lasting impression on me to this day. I’d have to say it’s one of my favorites from this year. I’m just so in love w/ it…all the detail & lace. Perfection!

Even w/ Hurricane Irene getting ever closer, w/ the gloomy gray clouds it brought w/ it, I was so excited we were able to get outdoors for some portraits. There’s a definite plus to an overcast day & portraits. Unfortunately about 5 min prior to the ceremony starting, the clouds opened up & the flood gates came pouring down on us. So we had to have our first indoor Apple Barn Farm ceremony, but they left the doors open to allow all the light in. It  created a very intimate setting w/ the beautiful backdrop of the green fields & soothing sounds of the rain. Of course, as soon as the ceremony finished the rain let up. So we took full advantage of this & moved outdoors once again to get some more portraits. It was a bit muddy & wet to say the least, but it was definitely worth it. We’ll follow up w/ part 2 so stay tuned for the portraits & reception to follow…
